Agriculture

Agriculture is the everything else aspect of CEA.  Including the science aspects - the biology and chemistry.; the plant science, the nutrition considerations.  We group the How-To grow, the equipment and supplies and everything else here.

Methods

Lots of Ways to Grow in a Controlled Environment.  They all work.  Some work better for certain plants than others, but they all work.  We encourage our clients to read, ask questions, come to the showroom and look, experiment and innovate.  It all works.  Explore.

Hydroponics

Hydroponics is growing without soil. Plants are provided with the nutrients they need in a solution of water. They are physically supported by a container and their roots are exposed to nutrient rich water.

Aeroponic System

Aeroponics

Aeroponics is similar to Hydroponics plants are grown without soil. The plant's roots are not hanging in the nutrient solution, but the solution is sprayed on the roots. This can be a large droplet like a sprinkler or atomized in to a 50 micron fog.  The plants absorb plenty of nutrition and the roots get lots of oxygen.

Aquaponics

Aquaponics combines Hydroponics and Aquaculture. Fish provide ammonia as waste. Bacteria consume ammonia and provide nitrogen as their waste. Plants use the nitrogen as nutrients and clean the water for the fish. Aquaponics is a sustainable, closed loop system. It Just Works...

Organic Medium for Agriculture

Organics

Organic farming starts with a soil (not dirt) that contains natural fibers and amendments to provide physical support for plants and maintain moisture. The mix might contain nutrient rich material or maybe inert. Nutrients are added as needed.

Containers

Lets start with containers to support the growth of plants.  Containers can be as simple as a reclaimed cottage cheese container or tin can and as sophisticated as the new fabric grow bags made of expensive space age materials.  There is No Wrong Way to grow.  There is a variety of methods and countless ways to do it.  Expensive to no cost DIY adaptive reuse of stuff methods.  They all work!  Containers physically hold the plant and if used, the medium that surrounds the roots of the plant.
